FIRST's MISSION:

FIRST was founded in 1989 by inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, with inspiration and assistance from physicist and MIT professor emeritus Woodie Flowers. The mission of the FIRST foundation is to inspire young people with  STEM, entrepreneurship and communication skills to become future science and technology leaders through mentor supported programs. As students, we call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate sport for the mind. High-school student participants call it:"the hardest fun you’ll ever have”.Under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams  challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get.

FIRST Core Values:

Discovery, Innovation, Impact, Inclusion, Teamwork, Fun

FirST Robotıcs Competıtıon - PRocess & GENERAL INFO

Every year FIRST releases a new “game” at the beginning of January. Teams have six weeks from the launch to design, fabricate, assemble, and test their robot before the competition.

Regional events consist of 40 to 60 teams. There are 80-90 qualifying matches where teams will be randomly assigned to three team alliances which change from match to match. Each match is 2 minutes and 30 seconds long. The first 15 seconds are reserved for autonomous play, which means the robot must operate without driver assistance.
